Here I go again, I’ve pulled together another mock-up photo book this time of street photography from across the years with no specific theme in mind.
I’d been meaning to make an exclusively street-photo ‘album’ for a while after the first Blurb test book and both the Blurb and Lulu.com Night Light infrared flash test books. I wanted to have an ample collection of street-pics all sitting together; Huggler.com were selling vouchers for a 100 page hardback book for around £25 so I went for it.
Although the book didn’t have any specific theme I still grouped content together in the shape of chapters with the first chapter a mix of everything pretty much exclusively in colour.
Chapter two is completely black and white mixing film with wild IR flash.
The third chapter looked at photographing family with the ‘street’ aesthetic.
The fourth chapter being a mix of everything that came before.
I’m still figuring out how things should or could look in a book with no written narrative to guide you, I’m a terrible writer so I always want to do as much as possible with images and little to no writing.
Picking images that feel OK next to each other is tricky but fun and below are a few decisions and my reasoning for them, for better or worse.
The spread above is of two photos that are pretty much unrelated but share a triangle with the peak at the centre; stairs opposite security tape. Below are 2 photos about arms, a guy with one in a sling and the other being handcuffed.
Above are two dogs, centred, but in different states and below two dogs paired with two women.
You get the idea, simple as it is. I’ll leave you with a few other photo spreads and a customary video tour.
