Hiya

Like most folks I’m an amateur photographer/hobbyist and ex-art student/painter. I initially wanted to do a street photography type blog but depending on where I work I sometimes don’t see the ‘street’ for months on end and I’ve realised I’m pretty shit at it so I’ve slightly shifted this blogs identity, except for the URL, to being more general about (my photographic) life in Edinburgh.

I’ll post my favourite shots on the blog but the rest (the junk) will be available on my flickr stream.

Film
Another thing to mention is I’ve been falling in love with film photography again and I’ll be blogging through my experiments with film cameras and home film development. It’s been a while but I feel quite excited about it and I’m having a blast.

I would like to reiterate I’m not a ‘photographer’ photographer I’m as amateur as they go so don’t think I’m trying to put myself out there as some sort of photography expert. I’m not. I’m really not. I hadn’t used film cameras since the mid 90′s so it feels like I’m just starting out again.

My Cameras
I’m not a camera snob, I used to mainly use my freakin’ iPhone with the Hipstamatic and Camera+ apps because it’s always with me and about as un-cumbersome (not a real word) as you can get.

Around mid 2011 I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 (digital four thirds DSLR) with the 14-42mm lens and an additional 45-200mm zoom lens. With my interest in photography sparked again I found my old Pentax K1000 35mm which held me in good stead at Art College many years ago.

A few months later I bought a Diana as a foot hold into medium format film photography and toy cameras but it didn’t end there as the list below illustrates.

I’ve dabbled with C-41 and black and white processing now keen to try a caffinol recipe and somewhere down the road I’d love to try wet plate collodian. Wet Plate looks amazing.
